Chemical Stockpile Disposal Program
Client: US Army
General Contractors: Bechtel, Parsons, EG&G
Project Description: Process Video Systems
Project Timeline: 1990 – Ongoing
In 1997, the United States ratified the Chemical Weapons Convention Treaty and agreed to destroy its declared stockpile (approximately 30,500 tons) of chemical warfare agents. In January 2012, the final mustard munition was destroyed at the Tooele Chemical Agent Disposal Facility, resulting in the destruction of nearly 90% of the U.S. stockpile by the treaty date. Operations and plans continue for disposal of the remaining 2,700 tons at the remaining two sites in Colorado and Kentucky.
For over 30 years AES Systems has been designing, building, installing, and maintaining process video systems in Chemical Stockpile Disposal Program (CSDP) Plants. From the CAMDS testing facility to the pilot plant on Johnson Atoll and finally the Blue Grass Chemical Activity, AES will support the program from the beginning to completion.
Systems included the following:
- NEMA 4X rated safe area camera systems with cable and junction box assemblies
- Explosion proof rated PTZ camera systems with cable and junction box assemblies
- Fiber optic infrastructure
- Network Video Management system to support recording and remote viewing of all system cameras
- Analog and Digital (IP) control systems with large control rooms with 20+ operators and monitor walls
- AES Designed high temperature PTZ cameras for monitoring rooms with temperatures exceeding 400° F
- Insertion cameras for monitoring inside of process furnaces with temperatures exceeding 2500° F
